Still Moore for you!
PLUS free Life Studied show AND a productivity hack to make you doggedly get more done!
Hey everyone,
Well, I’m back from the fist annual Comics Expo at Moore College of art.
I gotta say, I had a really great time. The students there are some of the most talented young artists I’ve ever seen and it was exciting to see their work and get to talk with some of them.
The keynote speech went off without a hitch too! Who’d have thunk?
And I got to hang out with some of the amazing faculty there, including my old pal Joe Kulka
Moore has an incredibly cool campus in a beautiful part of Philadelphia, Logan Square right on Logan Circle.
And it was a beautiful weekend to be there! Couldn’t get any better.
Here’s a sketch I did in an artist’s sketchbook who I met at the show.
The artist’s name is Rachel Perciphone and you oughta take note, her work is amazing! https://www.instagram.com/rachelperciphone )
Thanks to everyone that came to the Expo! Hope to be back next year.
Next up on my mini-tour will be Fanexpo Philly!

Hey, episode 9 of my Figure drawing and interview podcast Life Studied is FREE to watch now!
Check it out, it’s a great conversation with my good friend, artist and model Mairin-Taj Caya.
BTW - You can get Blackwing pencils, like the ones I use in the show, at my sponsor link https://blackwing602.com/mikehawthorne
It helps support the show AND you get some of the best pencils being made today!
I love them and you will too!
Did you read this month’s new Draw is Life column, “Couldn’t draw a stick figure”?
You should! Unless you don’t like reading, which would be weird because you’re on Substack…
ANYway, thanks everyone!
Best,
Mike

PS - I almost forgot, I promised a “productivity hack to make you doggedly get more done!”
Well, here it is!
Get yourself a gang of dogs that sit all around your feet while you work so you literally can’t walk away from your drawing desk.
You’re welcome.
Great to meet you Mike, I keep on checking out your sketch book, shaking my head and saying wow!
