Something had to change.

When I was a kid I decided I wanted to draw comics. I even had a list of characters I wanted to draw. By some insane luck I’ve been able to actually pull it off, make comics for years and check off all those characters on my list.

I know just how incredibly rare the air I breath is and I thank God above for every lung full.

But, something had to change.

I got into comics with a self published book called Hysteria that I wrote and drew. I always wanted to be a cartoonist, drawing my own stories. But people always wanted to hire me to draw their books and so I did.

Still, I’d always made time to write and draw my own stories. Short stories or more long-from books like Happiness Will Follow. Hell, I even got to write and draw a Deadpool story. However, for the most part, you all know me from my artwork.

It’s time to change that.

Hi, I’m Mike Hawthorne. You likely know me from drawing Batman, Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Daredevil, Deadpool and a million other things.

And now, if I work hard enough, you’ll know me for writing and drawing my own stories.

At NYCC this weekend rock star comics maker & old friend Rick Remender announced I’d signed an exclusive with Image via his imprint Giant Generator.

Rick, his team at Giant Generate and the folks at Image are betting on me in a way that no one has before. So I’ll be leaving behind drawing comics for other folks for a while and creating comics of my very own.

I hope you’ll all join me. I’ll need you to make this work.

Let’s change things and see what happens.

On another, but similar, note. A few months back I was asked by a major comic news site to write a monthly column. I agree and start banging them out immediately. Unfortunately, there’s been some turnover there as of late and I think maybe this Substack would be a better place for the column.
