I’ve been feeling both tired and exhilarated lately. It’s a little like running, where you begin by forcing yourself to start, but half way through you hit a runner’s high.
I’m doing a lot. I won’t bore you with it all, but I have about 6 projects (excluding my two podcasts!) going and a new semester at the college is about to begin this coming week.
For the first time in many years I’m not on a monthly book, which means I don’t have a predictable work day. I’m juggling all the time.
It’s a little scary but it’s also exciting in a way I haven’t felt since I began my career. That feeling is compounded by the fact that I’ve got a new Hysteria comic for the first time in 20 years.
I started this comic series when I was a kid, still in college. I wanted nothing more than to tell this story, but the world wasn’t ready.
It is now.
That is the reason I’ve been feeling so damned excited.
I handed one of these to my kids and they got genuinely excited. These kids have grown up with me working on everything from films to comics and games. So it’s not the novelty of me having made a comic.
It’s that it’s MY comic.
My oldest said “This is so awesome, I’m really proud of it.”
I’m doing something right.
I spent last night signing and packing comics. Honestly, I haven’t had a better Saturday night in a long time.
If you backed the Kickstarter, thank you. This is happening because of you.
Keep an eye on the campaign updates & emails, these will head out soon.
Thanks again!
My newest monthly column Draw is Life went live last week. Read it for free!
Dominant and subordinate lines.
What is this column? I’m going to do that classic “answer by saying what it’s not” thing. First, it’s not going to be the definitive answer on anything. It’s not going to be “the way”, I’m not going to preach from on high on how things should be done.
If you like it, do me a favor and share it with your friends.
I also dropped a new Life Studied podcast, which pay subscribers get a week early.
One of the current projects is the Life Studied artbook. It’s a 200 page collection of my figure drawings, and the first volume sold out. I have enough material for another 2 books, so I figured it’s time to make a volume two.
I’m building a new Kickstarter campaign for it, which I’m hoping to launch soon.
In addition to the book, I’m thinking of offer actual original sketchbook pages too!
Watch this space for info on that, or follow me over on Kickstarter.
We got a our first substantial snow storm here in Central Pa, which makes the city look pretty for about 20 minutes before it all goes grey and slushy.
I took the boys out for a walk in it, which they absolutely loved.
You don’t know happy till you see “fuzzy sheepdog in the snow” happy.
Thanks for reading, and stay safe.
Your boy,
Mike
