Hey all!
Happy Mother’s Day!
I’ll be spending mine with my best friend and wife, but for this week’s newsletter I’d like to share the latest episode of Life Studied!
Thanks for subscribing to the newsletter!

Hey all!

As you may know, I teach Anatomy and Figure drawing at an art college. This past week marked the end of another semester.
To celebrate I drew along side my students and my good friend and model Mairin-taj Caya (who I make the podcast Life Studied with). It’s a fun, low-stress way to still have them practice without the pressure of me walking up to make corrections.
Here are a batch of 30 second, 1, 2 and 5 minute figure gesture drawing.
These aren’t meant to be perfect, but rather a way to train the eye and hand to work together. And, honestly, I think they can be quite beautiful.
If you have the chance, give it a shot. No pressure, just letting your eye and hand sync up to make marks based on observations.
Happy drawing.
Speaking of figure drawing, over on my Patreon in addition to daily posts I share process videos with my Patrons.
I thought I’d share one here, with all of you.
I’d love if you considered becoming a Patreon Patron, but I also know many of you don’t want to go to multiple places for my work.
So I’m considering offering some content like this for those of you considering a pay subscribers.
Good idea? Let me know what you think in the comments.
Thanks!
I’ll be a guest of the Philly Fanexpo this weekend. If you’re in the area, come by and say hi! I’ll be doing panels, signing books and doing remarques, commissions and sketches.
Thanks!
Mike
Hey all,
It’s now 10pm on Sunday and since I’m very in the weeds with work I didn’t get a chance to really write a newsletter .
So I thought I’d share some videos from my Youtube channel.
Let’s start with a warm up figure sketch.
And here’s a process video for a comic cover.
Here’s a fun little Batman drawing!
A few years back I did a video version of Inktober, so here’s one of those entries.
Here’s a small clip from my bi-weekly Patreon podcast with my old friend and Scholastics cartoonist Jamar Nicholas - It Aint Hard to Tell.
Finally, if you have the time, here’s a real-time process video of me drawing Thing from the Fantastic Four!
Thanks, everyone and enjoy!
Best,
Mike
